Despite the colder weather, a holiday in London in November can be just as magical as around Christmas because the city is full of buzz, light and celebrations. From Diwali, the Festival of Light celebrations, to Bonfire Night Fireworks and turning on the Christmas Lights parties around various streets in London – we’ve selected the ones that will brighten your visit to the capital this November.
Bonfire Night Fireworks, various locations – 1st to 5th November 2019
Alexandra Palace is host to one of the most impressive bonfire night celebrations in the city. It is so popular that this year the event is actually happening twice, on the 1st and 2nd November. Other notable places to go for firework fun include Blackheath in south-east London, Battersea in south-west London, Wembley in north-west London, and Hackney just a short distance from The Westbridge Hotel. For more information on the Firework displays got to our latest BONFIRE NIGHT FIREWORKS blog.
Diwali on Trafalgar Square – 3rd November 2019
The Festival of Light brings added sparkle to the city. Official celebrations will be happening between 12pm and 7pm. Expect food, music, performances, arts, crafts and market stalls focussed on traditional and modern Diwali celebrations.
Christmas Light Switch On at Oxford Street and Carnaby Street – Early November 2019
Carnaby Street is known for having the most impressive Christmas light displays in town. Expect colourful and quite possibly eccentric displays such as last year’s Freddy Mercury-themed lights! Oxford Street, in contrast, is transformed into a sparkling winter wonderland of magical twinkling lights.
Hyde Park Winter Wonderland – from 21st November 2019
This annual event is full of festive fun, but if we were to pick just one highlight it would be the ice rink. The Victorian bandstand is surrounded by the biggest outdoor ice rink in the UK and illuminated with over 100,000 lights! Other activities to add to the sparkle include a circus, a theme park, and ice-sculpting workshops.
