The month of March marks the start of spring in London. This is a great time to explore the many public parks and botanical gardens in between catching some of the great events happening across this city. Here is our roundup of what to look out for!
Women of the World Festival

A truly WOW event, celebrating its 10th year at The Southbank Centre. There will be a whole host of inspirational world-class speakers, activists and performers taking part in the event including Naomi Wolf, Deborah Frances-White (The Guilty Feminist), Scarlett Curtis, Sandi Toksvig, Emma Dabiri and Shazia Mirza. This culturally diverse festival is well known for celebrating achievements and highlighting obstacles facing women of the world today.
Book and Screen Week
9th – 15th March
This is London’s biggest celebration of books, and the films and TV programmes they have inspired. Hundreds of free and paid entry events will be taking place across the capital during the week. Highlights include:
• War of the Worlds Immersive Experience – 9th – 56 Leaden Street
• Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts Graphic Art – 10th – House of MinaLima
• The Phantom of the Opera – 12th – Her Majesty’s Theatre
• Where’s Wally Fun Run – 15th – Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Stratford
Tip: While you are visiting Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford allow extra time to explore the area as it is particularly wonderful in March. The Park’s 111 acres is home to gardens full of flowering plants, meadows and wetlands. Wonderful places for a picnic if the weather is fine! By the canal you’ll also find plenty of places to get a bite to eat and a drink – and if you are with the kids, there are plenty of adventure play areas to discover too!
St Patrick’s Day Parade
The flamboyant parade starts at Piccadilly. The marching bands, performers and floats then work their way to Trafalgar Square in central London, where the fun really gets going. This huge event is billed as a diverse and inclusive celebration of Irish culture and community in London. Expect to experience a wide variety of music, arts and performance alongside authentic Irish cuisine.
