With two bank holidays to look forward to there is more time than ever to enjoy London! Here’s a pick of the best things to do this month.
Open Air Theatre Season is in Full Swing
Open-air theatrical treats of the Shakespearean variety are in full swing at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in May, with Henry V and The Merry Wives of Windsor. Alfresco fun of a similar variety kicks off in Regents Park too – from 16th May you can catch Our Town, a Pulitzer Prize-winning play from Thornton Wilder.
London Craft Week
London Craft Week in 2019 appears to be surrounded in VIP secrecy but rest assured that this annual event is a must for anyone who loves great design. This event truly showcases exceptional and innovative craftsmanship, from artists, engineers and designers year on year.
Royal Themed Theatre in Stratford, London
The Theatre Royal Stratford East just a few minutes walk from The Westbridge Hotel here you can see Lenny Henry take to stage in a far less frenetic role than many are used to. King Hedley II is August Wilson’s touching quest for redemption for one man and a whole community set in the 1980s Pittsburgh.
The Queen’s Procession for State Opening of Parliament
This ceremony has been taking place every May for a century! Join the union-flag waving from Buckingham Palace all the way to the Houses of Parliament to witness HRH herself being escorted by the Household Cavalry, usually mid-May.
London Wine Week
Personalised wine tastings: pop up wine bars, and indulgent restaurant wine pairing experiences across the city promise to make a spectacular week in London! For the first time since the festival started, passes are free. 13th to 18th May 2019.
RHS Chelsea Flower Show
Even if you are too late to get a ticket for this horticultural event, where the cutting-edge designers show off their inspirational installations, there are floral-themed events a-plenty to experience all around Chelsea. The most indulgent would be to enjoy an afternoon tea with a flower show theme at one of the very well-to-do restaurants nearby. 21st to 25th May 2019.
