January is the best time to visit London if you prefer your cities on the quieter side! Check out our top picks of things to do during your stay.

Check out the New Year’s Day Parade – AKA LNYDP! In January 2019 the parade promises a wealth of talent from around the world entertaining the crowds with music, performances and of course fabulous floats. Around 500,000 people are expected to line the streets, but the parade will also be televised so you can watch from the comfort of your hotel room!

Grab a bargain in the sales – The famous post-Christmas sales are on in January, which means bargains galore for thrifty shoppers. Department stores are treasure troves, so make sure you check out some of London’s finest: Selfridges, Fortnum & Mason, Harrods and Harvey Nichols; and don’t forget to go to Oxford Street, Carnaby Street, Regents Street and The Westfield Stratford City – well-known luxury shopping destinations in London.

Make the most of the free museums and galleries – January is the quietest month for museums in London, which means you get to avoid huge queues and enjoy more room during your visit. This is perfect for taking in a bit of Rembrandt, Gainsborough, Turner and Renoir at The National Gallery or enjoying interactive science and technology at The Science Museum.

Book tickets for top attractions – Fewer people also means that London’s top attractions are easier to access in January. They are sometimes cheaper too! Book tickets for January and you’ll get to enjoy attractions such as London Eye, Tower of London and ArcelorMittal Orbit – the UK’s tallest sculpture with stunning views across the city, right here in Stratford – with far less queuing.

Dabble in the art world at London Art Fair – An annual attraction where you can browse or buy contemporary British Art. The fair will be held from the 16th to the 20th January 2019 in London at the Business Design Centre N1, with over 100 galleries showcasing key pieces.

Catch the last of the Christmas fun – Most fairs run until early January, so it’s not too late to enjoy some winter wonderland fun, ice-skating, street food, markets and shows. Top of the list is Christmas at Kew, Hyde Park Winter Wonderland and Ice Skating at Somerset House.
