Not only is it the Queen’s birthday in April, but Easter’s extra-long weekend falls late this year. This all adds up to mean one thing: visitors are guaranteed to find loads of wonderful outdoor events on, during April 2019 in London!
5th April – First South Bank Underbelly Festival of the Year
For the 10th year running, visitors to the South Bank can enjoy a wealth of family-friendly fun right next to the River Thames. Circus, cabaret, comedy, children’s shows, music, and al-fresco dining are on the agenda!
7th April – Oxford and Cambridge Boat Races
There is always a fabulous atmosphere on the banks of the Thames for this event, not surprising given that it is one of the biggest free sporting events that take place in the Capital. Best spots to take for the action are: Craven Cottage, Hammersmith and Dukes Meadows. The race starts at Putney Bridge and finishes at Chiswick Bridge.
Easter Weekend – 19th to 22nd April
Check local listings for Easter Egg Hunts, performances, chocolate experiences and an array of “eggstra-special” afternoon teas around London. Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, which is just a few minutes from The Westbridge Hotel in Stratford, is the perfect place to relax in nature during a long weekend!
21st April – The Queen’s Birthday
Her real one, not her official one. A relatively low-key event, but still quintessentially British. Get yourself to either Hyde Park or the Tower of London, the most likely places for gun salutes to be fired in celebration.
28th April – London Marathon
Starting at Greenwich, crossing Tower Bridge, past the Tower of London and Big Ben, and finishing at Buckingham Palace – the London Marathon takes in all the sights! Where will you be standing to watch 40,000 people take part in the most “historical jog around London”?
